Technical Vocational Education and Skills Training

Mfesane seeks to capacitate, equip and inspire communities with knowledge, skills and facilitate opportunities to improve their economic status as well as making better decisions around their basic health care for self and sick members.

By providing skills training for financially disadvantaged, unskilled and vulnerable people in our communities, we see the emergence of skilled artisans who can take advantage of employment opportunities and a better position in the labour market. We also see the growth of sustainable projects and betterment of living conditions because of increased income. This leads to uplifted communities and builds our nation.

Alleviating poverty by building employment

In order to address inequality and economic marginalisation within South African communities, the Expanded Public Works Program was created. Within this strategy to help alleviate poverty, the Community Work Program aims to help build employment within the most marginalised communities. Mfesane has been appointed as the Provincial Implementing Agent of the Community Work Program in the Western Cape.

NPO CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT COURSES: Resource Mobilisation, Financial Management, Governance, Community Development and Project Management

Tangible stories of hope and change

In 2017 Mfesane trained 553 individuals in marketable skills. 294 participants were either placed in jobs or upskilled in their fields, 78 participants went on to further their education and 3 individuals started their own businesses.
In 2018 we saw 52 individuals completing welding courses, 34 people learnt how to lay bricks and plaster, 49 learners completed Child & Youth Care qualifications, 230 people did Community Health courses and 62 students completed our Give Yourself A Job workshops. 68 trainees were placed in on-the-job training and six trainees were placed under fair labour conditions.
And now, in 2019, through our new Skills Training Centre, we have seen 224 Community Health Care course graduates, 109 Child and Youth Care Worker graduates and 55 graduates from our bricklaying, plastering and welding courses.
